the intention of this ongoing project is to highlight the absurdities of human behavior. i guess this is it began as a systematic approach to filing away snippets of overheard conversations. i hand-write these "found sentiments" onto small 2" by 3" pieces of raw canvas. each is then rolled 6 rotations, wrapped 12 rotations in butcher paper, and then wrapped 24x with twine or string. the objects are displayed haphazardly on a portion of a defunct bedframe.

the scale of these objects suggests a distinctive intimacy between the piece and the viewer, while the meticulousness of preparation describes a compulsive and cathartic process. by limiting the numerical variables in the process to multiples of six, the representation of the level of obsessiveness with which we long to protect our secrets is intensified.

originally the scrolls were intended to stay sealed forever, but in later incarnations of the piece these objects were displayed in four crates n the floor. viewers were encouraged to choose a scroll and open it, read the "fortune" inside, and then discard the unwrapped mess into a fifth receptacle. during this later incarnation i was interested specifically in what prompts our decisionmaking processes, and why people are determined to find divine personal relevance in a totally random situation.
